My sister and I stopped into one of our favorite GW stores this morning. She heads to the clothes and I head to the glass and furniture. I always seem to find something here. Today this wonderful Shibata vase was waiting for me. I've seen these referred to as Imari and Satsuma but I think it's more a decor reference than a maker. This piece is about 8" tall and decorated with a pair of peacocks surrounded by gorgeously painted flowers in a lush bamboo forest. Everything is outlined in gold and all set against a cream colored background with a fair amount of craquelure. I'm fairly sure this is an intentional design element as I figure this piece is dated to the 60's -70's. While not that old it still is a quality piece and I was happy to give it a new home. -Mike-

It's easy to forget these are hand-painted; so much work in them.
The feathers and flowers are so beautifully done, and the decor around the neck is gorgeous!
I could not have left it either Mike.
Thanks for the "love" and comment Karen :) Exactly....it's nice to find valuable treasures but beauty is a treasure all it's own. :)
