Megatherium was a giant ground sloth the size of an Indian elephant. They went extinct at the end of the Pleistocene also known as the Ice Age. That is about 12,000 years ago. As far as geology goes that would almost be now. They lived in South America and migrated to North America when the Panama land bridge came about. Most of the South American prehistoric animals went extinct now but for the giant sloths and armadillos it was all good. None have been found at the La Brea Tar Pits though. But there was the rhinocerous sized Harlan's ground sloth.
The toy has no exciting features other than just sitting there looking pretty. It is 4 1/2" tall and one of their less expensive models.
Megafauna is the bomb!
Wow, that thing is pretty cool. I just watched the new movie "65" the other day. Had some cool dinosaur scenes. Was entertaining..
