Hello I just rediscovered this as I saw some cups called loving cups and realised I had one which I had never done anything with, i don’t know anything about them really so thought I’d post this in the hope of finding out loads about it. Tried to maximise the picture of the markings but they are very worn so can’t work them out at all.6 1/2” high solid silver.
Appears to be a trophy. Looks like it says "Princess Club Colombo"? That's Sri Lanka..there's another old club there established by British colonists..it was a social club for rich people..they played sports there. So it would make sense that this piece also says, "Brampton World Series"...Brampton is a town in England and also Ontario. If you could read the names it's possible you could connect the two.
I can see the names and the year they won, 1965 to 1985 , only 6 names
Definitely a trophy.
The hallmarks are for Birmingham 1928. I can't make out the makers mark but it looks like it starts with a W.
If I were going to guess I'd say its for golf. But that's purely a guess.
I bet it is a Cricket trophy. Biggest sport on Sri Lanka.
I was thinking Tennis lol
Thanks elanski I wasn’t sure about the date or maker but I thought it looked Deco so it makes sense, it has a classic deco look to it, and is very heavy and well made.
My ex won a couple of beauty contests in the early '70s and received silver loving cups like this. I still have them somewhere. They are about twice as tall though. Funny, the silver things I gave her she kept and the silver things she had when we met she left behind. ?
The ones I have, have lids..
They sound nice let me know if you find them, it would be good to see them, ex’s like to take things as souvenirs I think, I’ve noticed.
The design above inscription looks like Fleur De lys,[ Prince Charles ] more likely to be associated with Brampton UK or Canada.
What makes you say it is Solid Silver if the marks are to faded to make out ?
