This base has definitely seen better days but it's still an attractive piece. I bought it with the intention of restoring the electrical components to make it safe to use again. It had the cluster style sockets with pull chains. The cord had been replaced but not the sockets who's wiring was original solid wire with a cloth jacket so I removed them. The lidded jar is decorated with a beautiful peacock and peonies on a yellow (jaune) background. The porcelain is quite dense and heavy. Even so, a good smack ages ago or over tightening the hardware has left a hairline that runs from the collar down and across the side then down to the base. @%#!! Expletive deleted. Even the wood base is missing half the bottom edge. Someone glued 3 small wood blocks to the bottom so it would still sit level. Fortunately it was made to be a lamp and not a drilled valuable antique. The holes in the top and bottom are smooth and some glaze has even dripped inside them. I think I'll just leave it as a jar and get a finale for the top to fill the hole. -Mike-

well my meaning is completely insignifant, because i am not skilled enough for this

did a lot of basics butt i am still insecure, when you datamine this you get a plethora of options of the so called experts, which i am not

actually i am such a rooky it is hard to determine if it is chinese or japanese - the guangxu -versus republic discussion - meijji versus taisho discussion

We might possibly commited to the density of the Yellow-ground ( it might define which side of the turn of the century fi in chinese it is the dayazhai discussion)

IMO this is japanese the wrong side of turn the century

      I AM JUST GUESSING

My immediate response was 'Japanese'. i've seen this same pattern and colors on Japanese pieces. It is very pretty!
