I decided to rummage through my packed away jewelry boxes to see if I could find anything interesting. I found a long narrow teak wood jewelry box with carved jade like inserts on it. I opened it and started poking around and found this bangle under a few other pieces. I was surprised because I couldn't recall buying this. I got a bit excited which led me to spending the morning on YouTube crash coursing videos on Jade 101. This piece seems to pass all the superficial tests. Translucent, cool to the touch, heavy for it's size, ping tests with a nice clear ring, hardness scratch test, and passed the black light test for being treated with dye along with resin infusion which would cause fluorescence. Jade includes jadeite and nephrite, both materials are considered jade and come in a variety of colors from white to black. It also comes from other countries such as Canada and the U.S. not just Asia. The emerald green Imperial jade which only occurs in jadeite from Burma is what most people think of but other quality pieces and colors can fetch millions! Lavender is the second most popular. There's even an almost clear example known as Ice jade. My piece is some what spinach to mossy green. Jade is a gem so taking it to a jeweler with GIA certification as with diamonds is the best way to know if it's a few dollar piece or a few thousand. Fingers crossed it's not the everyday bargain basement variety. -Mike-

Had this piece appraised through the Value My Stuff service here on CW. While not jadite they determined it was nephrite of medium quality and worth a few hundred dollars. A bit more if insured. Not sure how they can tell just by looking at pictures but I was very pleased with their assessment. -Mike-
