    This is the only one of these I have ever seen.
    I imagine that when most light bulbs were
    barely bright enough to be worth using,
    such an accessory would have been rather attractive.

      That is pretty cool. Could be due to a lack of outlets.

      I have a bunch of similar ones.. use several of the two sided ones in the workshop.

      I have an led bulb(looks like regular bulb)on one side then an outlet socket (looks like an outlet that screws into bulb socket) that I run 4 foot led lights off of. Then you can run about three or four led fixtures off of each socket and control them with the light switch. As a bonus, you can turn each led fixture on or off depending on how much light is needed.

      I remember them well mainly from the 1940's and I seen them used in bathrooms which were often short of light. Now the Chinese are making similar with LED's. By the 1980's they were all but history.
