Style number 166 confectionery scale, made by International Business Machines Company, Limited, Toronto, Canada. 2 pound scale. I was given this treasure years ago by a dear friend, thank you, Jerry I try to keep it polished up because I know you’re looking down . I do treasure it. I don’t recall my candy purchases as a child being measured out on one of these, but I do recall the countertop lined with jars full of candy, and they were normally two or three for a penny. I know if you had a quarter you would get a bag big enough to last for days. Unlike today, where at a recent visit to the freak lunchbox candy store it cost us $23 for a similar size bag of candy for our granddaughter. They weighed it on a digital scale.

Laurabelle61, That's not only beautiful as an antique, but because it evoke great childhood memories for you. <3

When I went to look for twins, I was puzzled by the number of near twins, siblings, and cousins that were labeled "Dayton," and finally found some explanation:

Here's so.e other information on the Canada facility..

"The company used serial numbers on their machines, and these can be used to help date items. The first two digits denote the year so as serial number 18842 meant that the piece was manufactured in 1918."

Kera - We must've been looking at the same time..ya know..great minds think alike! I came back after finding that and saw you had beat me to it..lol

Thank you both for the information. I will read through it , it’s great to learn about my items. my serial number starts with 50 so I’m guessing it was from the 1950s which sounds about right. My friends father had it in his store so I’m guessing he purchased it new

dav2no1, That was a great find on the serial number dating information. Perhaps if I'd taken the extra time to find that myself, you would have beaten me to the draw. };-)

Laurabelle61, Because I'm a Below-the-49th-Parallel native, I wasn't familiar with the Freak Lunchbox, and had to look it up:

      Looks pretty cool. :-)

Oh, yes, the store is a little pricey, but well worth a visit. You will find all the penny candies of your childhood. They just won’t cost a penny anymore.
