This is a lovely vase I got yesterday in a local antiques shop - I popped in to kill some time before my train arrived, & was thus rewarded!
It is made from two layers of cased glass with a smooth satin finish, the outer layer containing uranium & exhibiting an intense glow under UV light. In person the vase has a light green cast, not quite as off - white as it appears in the photos. It measures 18.5 cm tall, 6 cm across the top rim, & 5 cm across the base. There are two clear applied handles & raised enamel decoration, as well as some tiny ruby red beads. The delicately painted blue butterfly is a perfect accent to the colour of the vase.
It has a slight chip to the top rim, but not very noticeable.
Bohemian origin...maybe Harrach? Or Riedel?
Beautiful and beautifully displayed as always!
I fear my memory has started to fade….even tho I grow the same spring flowers in my yard, I cannot recall their name. Can you please tell me?
I love an insect on objects, and the butterfly is lovely.
The glow though!
Many thanks, Patricia!
The flowers are grape hyacinths...it's almost spring here...
Hi Karen!
Yes, this butterfly is perfection! And the glow is epic on this piece!
