    Quonset Hut Neighborhood Photos
I found this delightful "Super Pak Snaps" 3.5" X 3" bound original photos at the thrift shop.
The book contains 30 photos of a Quonset Hut neighborhood throughout the four seasons.
The Quonset hut is a prefabricated, steel structure of distinctive style.
By the time the U.S. entered WWII, the military was building a version at the Quonset Point Naval Air Station in Rhode Island. The U.S. military used Quonset huts for quick and easy storage and shelters during 1940s wartime.
Because these structures were already familiar to returning WWII veterans, Quonset huts were converted into homes during a post-war housing crisis. these oddly shaped but practical dwellings represent an interesting solution to the high demand for housing during the 1950s.
I have to add that the youngster is wearing a wool snowsuit similar to the one I had in northern WI. Mine was purple and when I would fall down .... I would be weighted down as big clumps of snow would stick to the fuzzy wool :)

Thanks Much for Looking at my Post!!

Thanks Much DejaVu2 for stopping by to Comment!
I forgot to add in the description that my father had multiple Quonset hut machine sheds on the farm for our heavy equipment. :)

That looks like such practical housing….they should bring them back into use.
I feel for you regarding that snowsuit!!
Mine was a mustard yellow. I recall being a toddler zipped up tightly in that thing, screaming. My parents were just trying to keep me warm but I think that just set me up for a lifetime of being claustrophobic.

Great history here Falcon. Here on Long Island during WW2, one of my uncles worked servicing planes at Mitchel Air Force Base (now Mitchel Field), they had Quonset huts & I believe he lived in one of them. Today the whole area is part of Nassau Community College
