This is a WW1 trench art shell with stylized Egyptian motifs.
The entire shell is decorated with pyramids, palm trees, animals and even ancient people. Well crafted and a style not often encountered.
Probably crafted and retailed in a major city such as Cairo, during the war or soon after.
This example went home with a British soldier.
It has seen a hard life. It was dropped and dinged at the base and has a long surface crack. It also suffered through years of polish (typical of English shells) and now is developing a dark patina.
