This traffic signal cluster retired originally from Brooklyn, New York in the Summer of 2018. It saw service at the corner of 86th Street and Gatling Place in the Bay Ridge neighborhood. Dating back to 1964, the arrangement coexisted with the Gowanus Expressway within the same vicinity, since Gatling Place acts as a connector road from the highway. 86th Street crosses over it as well. It opened to traffic in the same year as the traffic signal cluster was put into service.
The fourth picture shows a Google Maps StreetView of the cluster, when still in service. Taken in June, 2018. About two month prior to its removal.
Welcome to CW. Great piece you have. How did you acquire it? Did you wire it up? Do you have other automobile related stuff?
Thanks for the comment.
It was acquired through Facebook Marketplace in 2020. The seller worked as a contractor for New York City and originally found the traffic signal cluster in a dumpster in 2018. He asked someone if he could take it, which the answer was yes, and the rest is history.
Unfortunately, he had no use for it later on, so the seller decided to sell moving forward two years later on Facebook.
I have since rewired the interior and gave the hardware and signals a new coat of paint. I plan to make them work again, like they once did on the street, in the near future.
As far as automobile-related stuff, no, I really don’t have anything like that. I mainly collect vintage New York City traffic signs and signals.
