Very lightweight ornate wood carving with bird, leaves, and branches - I just can't be sure of what it is - a scarf holder? - it seems the openings are too small. I don't know of anything else. Any ideas or knowledge would be appreciated - thanks!
You didn’t tells us the dimensions but if you had considered it being a scarf ornament, I can guess about the size.
Those rectangular “brackets” look as if they might accommodate a velvet ribbon; I’m imagining a lovely ladies’ hat back in the 1940s or so with this decorating it.
The brackets might also accommodate a long pin to secure this to a hat or to the lapel of a coat.
Additionally, a narrow belt might thread thru the brackets a decorate a belt.
Besides all that, my first impression was that this was meant to decorate a framed mirror or piece of furniture….but the brackets are a puzzlement.
If it were mine, I’d get creative and pin it to a blazer lapel. It’s really beautiful and I love it, as you can probably tell. ;^)
Hi, thanks so much for your suggestions! - I like them! The measurements are about 2.5" wide, 1.5" tall, and just under .25" thick.
For a scarf or a belt. It's very pretty!
If it didn't have the loops, I was gonna say cuckoo clock. It's possible the loops were added?
They used to have similar carvings on cockoo clocks !~
Hi everyone - I think you may be right about the cuckoo clock carving now that I think about it - the loops are fit into a narrow groove and glued in. Thanks all!
