This was an awesome win on eBay AU, & I can't believe that I was the only bidder. Not that I'm complaining!
It is made from two layers of cased glass, clear over an ivory/opaline inner with an iridescent satin finish. The vase measures 23.7 cm tall, 13 cm across the six - way crimped top rim, & 10.5 cm across the base, which has a polished out pontil mark.
Bohemian origin, circa 1900. Possibly by Kralik, though the mother of pearl colour is a little deeper in tone than other known Kralik mother of pearl items in my collection.
Absolutely stunning!
Many thanks, dejaVu2!
Very stunning indeed!!
Thanks also, Scott!
Very interesting, Marin. I think you are right to doubt Kralik as their m.o.p. doesn't have blush pink highlights in my experience. Nor did Kralik vases of the Art Nouveau period have polished pontils. Intriguing :)
Many thanks, Peggy, that is definitely food for thought! I wonder who made it?
