Here is one of my two finds from yesterday's antique fair, a cool little vase by Welz.
It is made from three layers of cased glass, clear over spatter with a white interior. The vase measures 14 cm tall, 3.4 cm across the top rim, & 4.5 cm across the base. The shape is one I haven't encountered before, with a swirling ribbed neck that sits atop a three lobed base patterned all over with small bumps. There are also three tiny leaf - like "feet", for want of a better term. The spatter is also a new one to me, vibrant in a way, yet muted, too. There is a lot of oxblood red in it.
I really like how the spatter on the neck is stretched into fine stripes that go against the swirled pattern - very clever.
But what else would I expect from Welz, their products are always interesting & unusual...
so Victorian, so intricate I could look at it for half an hour without boring
Many thanks, kivatinitz - that's exactly how I feel about this vase, it's busy in a magical sort of way, classic Welz!
I really love this patter glass vase!!! I love antique fairs. We have one coming up within the next 6 weeks and I can't wait!!!
Thanks also, Scott! Hope you make some cool finds at the antiques fair! They're one of my favourite things too!
I think you have a new shape, Marin. Ordinary ribbed ball feet from the top but from the side oval, so ribbed rugby ball feet :). Great find!!!
Much appreciated, Peggy - I was looking forward to hearing your thoughts on this one! I knew when I saw it that it was something different that I was fairly sure I hadn't seen before. It was a great deal, too, really cheap!
Hey Marin, can I love it again.......
Sure! Wish you could, Peggy! :-)
