1930s Walco Pipe Wrench
Approximately 18"
Manufacturer: Walworth Company
This is an 18" Stillson or Pipe Wrench. It has a stamped US Patent 186,2002. It also has several stamped areas including "Walco Pipe Wrench" and "Walworth Company Made in U S A". The patent number refers to a 1932 patent. There is no keeper, so you can completely unscrew the assembly. There is not many parts as you can see in the pictures, just a simple design.
NOT A MONKEY, IT'S A STILLSON WRENCH!
A 'monkey wrench' is designed for use on nuts. A Stillson wrench - is an adjustable tool used for turning soft iron pipes and fittings with a rounded surface.
THE FIRST ONE
Daniel C. Stillson was a mechanic at the Walworth Company, in Cambridge, Massachusetts. On October 12, 1869, US patent #95,744 was issued to Stillson for his wrench design.
