Hello everyone!!
This is sort of out of the realm of my collecting genre, but I just couldn't pass this piece up. It's a lady's travel lap desk from the 1850's. It's still in beautiful condition, to be nearly 175 years old, and is quite elaborate. It has two hidden compartments. One compartment opens to reveal a beautiful blue chalkboard and the other compartment opens to reveal a beautiful ornate mirror. The writing surface is a deep green colored velvet like material. It still has it's original inkwells, though the pen is missing. I found out the hard way that there is still a bit of ink remaining in the inkwells and ended up getting ink on my hands. The desk has a nameplate, seen in pic #1, that reads "Mary K. Waring From A Friend 1852". The desk measures 16 1/2" long, 13 1/2" wide and 3 1/2" deep. It measures 26 7/8" long when opened.
Thanks so very much for stopping in for a look!!

Thank you all very much for the loves!!!
Beautiful antique lap desk with interesting interior, it's awesome that they used a form of the 'laptop' for writing even back then, this is very educational Scott thank you!
Jenni,
Thanks very much!! Yes, I too have been, and still am, amazed by the design of this. The inscribed nameplate makes it even that more special.
