Amazing what I found Googling the 1929 SS Karlsruhe 24 day Travel Brochure. First class everything included $245. Bucks !! But googling further found ship was built in 1905 and sunk near the end of WWII carrying 1300 German passengers trying to escape the Russian advance in East Prussia.
Soldiers from the famous Nazi Hermann Goring Panzer Division and German citizens. Russian torpedo planes sunk it. Only about 100 survived. Looking further there was a story about some of the Cargo may have pieces from Peter the Great's wonder's of the World Amber Room.
It amazes me what I got from an old travel brochure.
Also the guy that arranged this tour from 73 Sheridan St. JP was a couple of blocks from where I worked in the early sixties. Condo's at that address go for a million two.
