This fancy fellow is definitely a mystery to me! Can't find one exactly the same, and the paint and beautiful glaze on the face are confusing because of how oddly pitted it is in places, unsure if that's deliberate or due to age, which I don't know yet either! Any input would be appreciated! Figure is 5 7/8ths" high, base is 2 1/2" by 2", and is 3" wide at widest point. Thanks everyone!
This is an FUDE ZHENGSHEN, in the official chinese translation of the colloqual form, they are also in Malaysian translation
it is God protector for the hillblillys ( for a good harvest) ,and during the great famine of 1876-1879, it has some gravity for the ignorant people
IN very old time they worshipped the soil and the rain , and the blossom, and was part of the Daoisme
this is quite new . because of the luster ware , give or take 1970 and up
Thank you Waki. I thought maybe due to the grit on the bottom it had a bit more age on it, I am always learning, but still so little do I know!
