I found this copper planter in a brocante near my home here in France. After checking out the signature it turns out to be English. It's by a John Pearson and is dated 1898. He was a master craftsman at the Newlyn school. Now my dilemma is, do I clean it? It's quite dull and would probably look fabulous polished. I think I may sell it sometime but would it be best to leave it with it's dark patina? Would cleaning it affect it's price if I sell it?

There're ways to remove the green oxidation or corrosion, on copper, without ruining the desired patina, I'm not an expert, so that should be Your next Question Villaret! :^D It does depend on You, if You are going to keep, and You like Bright Copper, find a good copper cleaner, and coating, but if You are going to sell it or give it to someone, maybe ask first! Thanks for posting Your Beautiful Antique Copper Vase! Bill :^)
