I have some of a similar type dumbell. They are used to go through shaped drop in glass panels on a chandelier from the 1930s. One end sits in a slit in the center frame and the more narrow end towards the outside. The shaft fits through a hole in and prevents the finlike glass panel from going further down. Have pix but do not see a method for attaching. I have the parts spread out in a closet so i cannot describe more fully.
