This is a cute Victorian vase I found on excursion to Newtown recently.
I have a lot of this type of glass with applied decoration, so any new additions have to show me something different to win a place in my collection!
Luckily, this one had a few points of difference. It is made from opaline white glass with an unusual (for this kind of glass) lobed, pumpkin shape. There is an applied amber crest on the crimped top rim, & an applied amber leaf trail with a large round pink fruit (a berry of some sort I suppose, although it would make a great marble). The leaf is notably large in proportion to the rest of the vase, which measures 12 cm tall, 4.7 cm across the top rim, & 4.5 cm across the base, which has a polished out pontil mark.
Unlike most of this white glass with applied decoration, this vase does not have a uranium content.
Possibly Bohemian or English origin, late 19th century.
Love it!!
