This pocelain 'tazza' I found at a flea market and bought for the equivalent of USD 30. I guess it's from the Ming period ? Hight 5 cm. Diam. 11 cm. But the Ming dynasty ruled for about 3 centuries, so maybe you can date it more precisely and maybe tell me what it was used for ?
IMO very late ming , ( but i am far from an expert)maybe evening running to mid kangxi, very and very thick , mystification in the observe inner circkleis an what later indicator probably , imo not related to WAnli period , hidden crackle still present
It looks like a sort of precursor of the same type of ware whith the Xo-XO design moddeling around 1690-1710
incidental religious purpose probably , thanking or begging the god of soil or for a good harvest , or thanking for passing the civil servant exam etc
, and the rest was for praktical use ( if yoy could afford a tazza , it was an rural society)
to emphasive the psychological durung the period the bencharong tazza was made people used it more for praktical use , late18- and19, because it was a peaceful and tranquile----Ayutthaya first commissioned Bencharong wares in the 18th and the used it for picnics

Many thanks Prostata. I've found pieces like this one on the Internet. We are told that they were made in Canton and exported to Indonesia and the Phillipines in the 17th and 18th century, where they were used for offering fruits on altars. Do you agree ?
puh , difficult question well ming could be Canton , no sweat, but are Tazzaz mandatory Canton , when i look all the shipwreck ware ( by the way most of the post Ming) almost no cups and stem ware and the reason could be, you have to tidy up a ship( somethimes you see batching numbers , mainly on japanese porcelain )so you need or stackables , or convenient shaped porcelain ( shallow bowls , chargers etc), so i wonder it is not so managebel for the equilibrium and we are talking very late or early Qing
sure they are used for althars in the 17 and 18 century, but the alleged doctrine is to rigid
there is a theses tazza could be evolved from stemcups used for wine most of the time the so called in the presence of buddha way of thinking
The doctrine is not that rigid , you can use whatever you want bowls tazza , you name , as long as you represent servitude , gratitude , rightfulness,, for Song stemcups were expensive for instances , well you take a tiny bowl or a more affordable potter, or you donatie some flowers in a shallow bowl etc

extually the export from chinese porcelain to the phillipins was very high, because
almost all they got was stoneware during the Ming Period in the phillipines , and it was very expensive in the phillipines because it was exotic , and very colorful especially (ZHANGZOU , lets state for discussion sake Swatow or WAnli , red swatow , purple swatow, only a tiny bit was wat they call ANNAMNESE
the same goes for indonesia only they start porcelain much earlier then the pillipines
As you might know the Dutch are very arrogant people , we always declined Zhangou ware ( swatow - WAnli) because it was heavlily potted and to rude , we wanted armorials more highbrow , more standing etc
and nowadaysTHE auctionhouses we are loaded with that kind of stuff, they bought it for ncikle and dimes in the Phillipines, and let,s say we BORROWED
