    (929 items)

This is a rare example of a fairy lamp that I didn't have to make up from spare parts! They come up so rarely & are usually outrageously expensive but sometimes you can find luck is on your side.
I scored this one on eBay AU earlier in the week, for a very reasonable sum. There was one other bidder but I left them in the dust! ;-)
The dome is made from red & white glass in the Verre Moire pattern (many folks call it Nailsea but that was a whole other glass works from a much earlier period that had nothing to do with fairy lamps - the only link being the pull - up pattern, which is about as ancient as glass making itself).
It has a smooth satin finish.
The clear pressed cup is marked Patent Trade Mark.
English origin, circa 1880s, condition is excellent for its age.

Well done, your first paragraph is so true. So congratulations on a lovely fairy lamp.
Nailsea made window panes. Of course that poses the question, Just who DID make the lovely striped glass found in England?

Beautiful, did you spot the S Clarkes Fairy on the base as well? It shows up on the expanded photo!

      Much appreciated, Peggy!
I wish I could know exactly who it was that made this beautiful decor. The skill & artistry is of the highest order. But it seems as though many makers could be in the mix, as most good glasshouses would have jumped aboard the fairy lamp "bandwagon" to cash in on their popularity at the time.
There are the usual suspects, Thomas Webb & Sons & Stevens & Williams. However, Richardson's could also be a possibility, as they produced some fine examples of threaded decors.
On another note I have one more fairy lamp in the offing, it is currently in transit from the UK (not a bargain sad to say). It is only a dome but I will have a base to fit it. Stay tuned! :-)

Many thanks, Bernard & well spotted!
Amazing how many variants they did to the bases, let alone the dome decors.
As mentioned there will be another fairy lamp turning up soon. There are a few bases hanging around to fit it. Now, I will get back to trying to find a couple more large bases plus some more domes in either big or small...
