Some dimensions would help. This tray has similar holes for glasses..does your piece look big enough for a glass?

I thought a certain size of glass jars. Also they could be for hockey pucks. I imagine they sell in multiples too, although you would want to see one side through a glass top !~
Pictures are always almost useless without size, all HELP needs both!~
Hi Sorry I have added new pictures and measurements,I actually thought of hockey pucks but couldn't find anything thanks again

Might as well add an image of the bottom. You get four images and it might be one more clue....
Any idea what that white stuff in the corners is?
Sorry i don't know what the white stuff is, but I just noticed that it has the name Cheney England on the clasp so am thinking antique scales but not sure
Thank you

Thanks for the image. Does it lie flat when the lid is open? So maybe the top serves as a base for whatever is stored in the bottom?
The joints on the bottom are uneven which suggests to me that this box was perhaps homemade and if so, this could be a one off and made for a special purpose by the user which would make it very difficult to determine the use.
Hi thankyou for your reply, when fully open it is slightly raised from the surface, it could possibly have been home made thanks for the info tho
