    Hi Everyone!!
About four years ago I posted a cast iron fox head boot scraper designed and crafted by Savannah B. Butt. Well, I was able to find another of her boot scrapers. This one is a cast iron "Double Scotties" boot scraper. It was in total disrepair when I found it. A pair of the Scotties had became detached and the whole thing was severely rusted (pic #4). My neighbor and best friend sandblasted the boot scraper, reattached the pair of Scotties and primed it for me. I finished it up from there by repainting it and replacing the missing brushes. The Scotties are actually Hubley #447 "Double Scotties" doorstops, but Savannah B. Butt simply incorporated them into her boot scraper.

The B.B. Butt Co. was started, owned and operated by a lady named Savannah Barrett Butt (of Baltimore, MD) who, in May 1938, patented a boot scraper design, or foot scraper if you will. I was able to locate the actual patent. It appears that Mrs. Savannah Barrett Butt's husband, Edward H. Butt, passed away in 1929 and by 1932 the depression had left her with a diminished income. That's when she turned to black smithing. She designed and made anything from decorative horseshoes, doorstops and foot scrapers. I have an article from a 1938 Baltimore newspaper that explains how Mrs. Butt started this company. She was indeed a very industrious and interesting lady.

Thanks very much for stopping in for a look!!

    Scott

Thanks very much friend!! I hated to see a piece like this get discarded and never see daylight again. I was thrilled to get this and restore it.
