I've long admired Rindskopf's snake vases, & hoped for years to find one of my own.
At last, I scored this one on eBay AU as a modestly priced buy it now - I couldn't believe my luck!
This vase is made from a single layer of clear glass that shades to a band of opalescent pink at the top. It measures 18 cm tall, 12 cm across the four way crimped top rim, & 9 cm across the base, which has a rough snapped pontil mark.
There is a martele decor, & pearly iridescent finish, with an applied green snake.
A lot of the glass in my collection could be described as offbeat, quirky, or fanciful. This vase is one of the rare pieces I would call glamorous. That pearly pink top, combined with the exoticism of the applied snake, combines to exude old school glamour!
In perfect condition.
Made by Rindskopf, circa 1900.
Congrats on landing this beauty! Absolutely spectacular!!
Many thanks, Scott!
It was great to tick this one off my wish list, especially since it didn't cost too much!
Beautiful piece. Congratulations. I have the same vase in my collection and now I am leaning more towards Ernst Steinwald. However, I do not yet have enough arguments to completely rule out Rindskopf.
Thanks so much, Ales!
This style of vase is rare in Australia, I've only seen one other, in blue, in a shop, with a very big price tag. Feeling super lucky about this one!
