Milwaukee Blue Cross Enameled Reporters Badges
Back in the day (1890'-1920's) when newspapers had their peak subscription rates their reporters badges were beautiful and very fragile. With silver colored centers and blue enameled arms, their beauty was only momentary. The enamel cracked and shattered quickly and as a result it is almost impossible to find one without missing enamel. I have only ever seen one with perfect enamel in the last fifty years. I have seen examples of the Blue Cross from the Milwaukee Sentinel, the Milwaukee Journal, The Milwaukee Herold (German language) and one of the Polish language papers. The badges are made by Schwaab even though most of the makers marks are covered over by pin repairs.
