Hello everyone!!
I've had this little dresser box for many years. It's a leather covered dresser box made in France sometime during the second half of the 19th century. In the lower lefthand corner of the top, pics # 1 and #2, you'll notice the words "Breveté SGDG" which was a French patent that translates to "Patented Without Government Guarantee". If you zoom in on pic #4, you'll see it has printed, inside the lower front portion of the box, with what appears to be, J. WEIDMAN K.K. HUFFAHRINANT WEIN, which I believe is German. So, could this be the original owner's name from Germany or Austria? Was it custom made for this person? Not really sure about any of that. So, that will always be a mystery to me.
The little boy and girl are fabric covered, but some of that covering has deteriorated over the years. It's nicely lined with grosgrain. The leather remains in very good condition, though it's absorbed quite a bit of staining over that past 150+ years. I keep this atop my dresser and I keep my collar points, tie tacks and cuff links in it. It measures 5 1/4" long, 4 1/8" wide and 3" tall. Not sure what category to place this in.
Thanks very much for taking time to stop in for a look!!
