The Texas Telephone Company 5 Year Pin. I have seen a 1 year pin, a 2 year pin, 10, 15, and 20 years pins. This company started out of Waco, Texas, and I saw some service territory going as far north as Sherman, Texas.
I don't know much about the company, but I have a better understanding of how the telephone business spread throughout Texas. There were literally hundreds of telephone companies in the Lone Star State. (like the Pearl Telephone Company:
    Dallas - Dallas Telephone Company
Waco - The Texas Telephone Company
Brownwood - West Texas Telephone Company
Tyler - Gulf States Telephone Company
However, most of Texas was covered by The Southwestern Telegraph & Telephone Company, and Southwestern Associated Telephone. I know of a few others, but I will post later because Texas is a really big state. Some others I am looking into:
    San Angelo Telephone Company
    Conroe Telephone Company
    Alto Telephone Company
    The Brazoria Telephone Company

Thank you, Newfld! I appreciate your comment!

Not all independents used the shield, but unless it had something to do with money, then I am not sure why. The long story summarized is Bell used Operators to provide service; while Independents used the Strowger Dial (the rotary dial with an electromechanical switch) with hardly any Operator involvement. Strowger later became known as Automatic Electric (AE).
