Hello everyone!!
I have many vintage and antique jockey and horse racing related items in my collection. Among them are these early 1900's binoculars made exclusively for "Le Jockey Club Paris". I believe these were made by either Charles Chevelier or Jacques Lemaire in Paris. Considering the age of these binoculars, they're still in pretty fair condition and still operate quite well, even though the lens are a bit scratched. The blue silk lining inside the case lid is missing, but they're still a very nice example of the Parisian craftsmanship in the 19th and early 20th centuries. Pic #4 shows the "Le Jockey Club Paris" inside the eyepiece of the binoculars.
"Le Jockey Club Paris" was originally called "Society for the Encouragement of the Improvement of Horse Breeding in France" . It was a a meeting place for the elite in Paris during the late 19th century. The club still exists at 2 rue rabelais in Paris.
Thanks very much for taking time to stop in for a look!!
