In the second half of the 1880s, top luxury glass manufacturers developed new types of glass, such as carnelian glass. The Lötz company occupied an outstanding position in this field. Its products were shown at the 1888 arts and crafts show in Munich and at the world exhibitions in Paris in 1889 and Chicago in 1893.
This bowl was made on commission for the L. Boutigny company (Com. 89), Paris, Pasage des Principes. Boutigny was a business partner of the Lötz company from around 1890, but this business relationship probably ended in 1905.
Carnelian glass pink on the outside, shape and decoration around 1890, PN unknown, decoration 1/4. Pink opal glass, covered with reddish-brown veined colorless glass. Blown into the mold, blown up and freely formed. Decoration: painted with matte relief gold. On the back of the polished piece there is a sticker from the Boutigny company. This is designed in red and gold with a lion in the coat of arms. Length 35.5 cm, width 30.5 cm, height 10 cm.
I also know of the same bowl in malachite.
