Three years ago, I posted the cast iron & steel "dibble" on CW. I'm reposting it because some members might not have seen it so now, I am reposting it alongside a new find in the "dibble" world.
The first two photos are of the all metal dibble, and the second two photos are of the wood and brass dibble. It has a hard wood handle, but, the point is made entirely of brass. I have never seen a brass dibble before, so....., I had to have it.
Now, in case some members do not know what a dibble is used for, let me tell you.
A dibble is a tool to make impressions in the garden soil after the ground is tilled. The tilled soil is soft, and the tip of the dibble can easily be pushed into the ground.
The resulting impression allows the planter to place a plant such as a tomato plant, or tobacco plant or any other small plant to be placed into the impression and then hand covered up with the surrounding soil.
It is sometimes used in gardens to dibble small indents for placement of seeds such as sweet corn, beans, beets, or any other seeds.
I SOMETIMES think that the obsession that I have with collecting odd and unusual items is a sickness, while my wife ALWAYS thinks that this is so.
