This cabinet card photograph features a man with his banjo and family.
The cabinet card is unmarked, but is typical of the 1880s.
Apparently the man was very fond of his banjo and felt the need to include it in this family photograph.

Scott,
Looking at the distance he is standing from his family, your observation is spot on. It appears he was more "attached" to that banjo than his family. ;-)

Thanks solver and walksoftly.
Thanks hotkitties and Argentina-- take a look at my other banjo images when you get a chance.
I have a few other early "banjo" images on Collectors Weekly.
