9ct gold brooch with square carnelian gemstone. It has a little loop on the underside which makes me think something must have been attached originally. It has a roll-lock clasp and stamped 9CT on the reverse. The stone measures 1 inch square so it's quite substantial.
I don't know exactly where this brooch originates although it was purchased by someone from England that was stationed in Malta during WWII. I wonder if they purchased the stone and had it made into a brooch on their return from the War? I would like help on translating the script or identify the language at least. It looks Arabic but it might hold a clue as to where this originates.
I think square carnelian stones are quite rare. I've not come across anything similar. Any information would be helpful. Thank you.
Hello,
I think that the little loop on the othersite was mend for a safety chain and pin, as seen as many brooches from this eara.
And indeed the text is, I believe Arabic. I will try to let it translate by an equintance because I cannot do it myself.
hi this is Arabic text and its part of a verse in the holy Quran, means victory from Allah and a soon opening ''Opening relates to the Opening of Mecca when the prophet Muhammad ((peace be upon him and his household)) came from Medina with the Muslims at that time to Mecca to take it from the worshipers of the Idols peacefully as the Idol worshipers didn't obied by the agreement that was made between the Muslims and them . Hope that helps. I think the stone was purchased separately and made into a brooch, the stone could be originally from a ring. hope that helps
Hello bassam, that's very interesting indeed. Thank you for taking the time to comment. It's much appreciated. :-)
