I literally have now collected hundreds of these different charms. Many people commonly call these Cracker Jack charms although I am told by reliable sources that they were never actually given as prizes. These were given away as premiums in vending gumball machines, bread ties, tobacco, and liquor in the 1940s. There are so many different and unusual rare ones still on my wish list! These pictures are just a few out of my ever growing collection!:)
That's a great collection. I continue to be amazed at all the different items we all love to collect!
These are simply GREAT,after blowing up the second picture, I found I could name about 10 of the characters. I have just a few of these, but as you stated in description I've been misled, thinking they were Cracker Jack prizes. Again these are great, thanks for sharing.
Amazing!! Great collection.
Thanks everyone!:) I also collect vintage celluloid chain necklaces and I create themed necklaces with the vintage charms.
It just simply amazes me that these tiny little charms are still around after 70+ years. I like the hand painted ones the most. (some were left plain "vanilla") My favorites are of dressed bunnies/animals (not pictured). One day it would be nice to make a book about these!
Very cool indeed...
Is there any book out there that will list some of these charms and their value? I collect Cracker Jack and was told they were CJ prizes, but could never find them in the book. I did not think they wer CJ and was glad to find this site to let me know where these originated. If you could let me know of some place to find value of these I would appreciate it as I do have several myself.
That is a wonderful collection, love it!!
super cool!
Incredible! Fantastics!
Hmm, I think I just solved a little mystery with this old thread. I posted some charms I had from my grandmother's house thinking they were Cracker Jack on the official CJ forum, and was told they were not CJ. This is a new lead to follow! :)
Hello! I just purchased 2 celluloid charms - I see the 2 purchased in your picture. I am hooked. :) Though I will not purchase as many as you have - I am in awe of your collection! I wish I could see it in person. I have some questions for you, but this thread was initiated a few years ago so I am not sure if my message will be seen by you....I hope to hear from you! Sincerely, Pali
