This is an aluminum helmet, likely from the "40's, made in USA< likely by Cairns. There would have been a front "shield" of leather, identifying the city and company(truck/pump) the firefighter belonged with.
Thanks for looking! Cheers!!
Thank-you officialfuel & packrat-place!
Thank-you Bellin!
Thank-you Perry!
Thank-you Vontrike!
Cairns "Senator" helmet, made from aluminum, Aluminum helmets fell out of favor because of metal's tendancy to conduct electricity. if you look inside the crown of the helmet you will see a Carins & Brother medallion, they moved from New York to Clifton, New Jersey in 1948. So if it says Clifton, New Jersey on the medallion inside, the helmet is from post-1948
Thank-you Paulbalentine for the info, very informative. Are you on the job?
Had another look Paul, no mark/tag of anykind , just a lot of dust and grime, musta seen a lot of "action"!
@pickrknows: Yes, I am on the job as a volunteer and paid/career (2 different departments) judging by the condition of the helmet, I would hazard a guess that it hasn't seen much action. It is in absolutely fantastic shape!!! It is possible that this was worn by a FF who wasn't particularly agressive/active in the FD or it was worn for a very short time. In my opinion, however, it doesn't detract from the value of the helmet, I don't believe that condition really effects the value of fire helmets, I have seen some really beat up helmets fetch alot of money!!
Thanks for the info JVS389! Cheers!!
You can tell the approximate year the helmet was made by a letter code on the metal disc inside the helmet. I just joined this site, so I don't know if other members have access to my email. If you do, send me an email, and I'll send you the information.
Thanks Tristar, no markings of any kind on it, sorry..
Is there a round metal disc inside the top of the helmet? It should have one, unless it was removed for some reason.
@Tristar Good evening, what is your email, please? Thank’s
