This unusual and very detailed picture has been in my family for 4 generations. (I'm 53) The scene is indented and then 'raised' and has a 3-D effect. It can chip if hit against something. (notice the chip on the lower right) It seems to be made of a "pottery" type of material maybe. There are marks on just about the ladie's head that appears the be a number 11 on the inside of the frame. Does anyone have any info or value on these type of of pictures? Care instructions are imprinted on the back but are blurry on the item as you can see in the photo. Also if anyone out there has a picture like this or similar too I would love to see photos of it.

Someone who posted a comment on this picture saying that it was 'resin' and is not antique needs to re-read the description that I posted. This picture is very, very old. No it is not "resin" and NO it is not of lately. (Sorry~Not a Wal-Mart item). I'm not sure how old something has to be before it qualifies to be 'antique' but I can assure you that this item was hanging in my great Grandmother house most of her life! She passed away at the age of 97. That has been 47 years ago. The picture was then handed down to each of us until it got to me. I was just in hopes of finding someone who has something like it or maybe one just like it to be able to get more info since my Mother and Grandmothers are gone. Yes...it may have been mass produced YEARS AGO in a 'form' but that is okay. It is still very old. Since you are sure that it is a 'new' item please send me a link on the net to the place that sells something just like it. I would love to get another one! :>)

There was nothing definitive as far as I could tell.
Then I looked at composition. From the look and your description I think it is chalkware. Here is a similar picture...

Savoychina1, Thank you very much for the info. I took your advise and looked up the item. I was happy to see that it said "From Estate...and also says "chipped and darkened from age". Please read below as copied/pasted from the site.
From estate, weighty plaster? plaque is marked Ivorstone ware or Ivoritone ware on the reverse ~ front reads; Peaceful Hours, plaque measures 6 3/4 x 10 inches ~ dimensional cozy scene of a woman at a spinning wheel in front of a hearth- fire with a kettle cooking ~ there are a few chips on the edges and it is bit darkened from age~ charming piece though ~
This tells me that it was not 'created' yesterday.

This is interesting. I am 55 and I have the exact same picture that belonged to my grandmother. She was 87 and died 25 years ago. She had it hanging in her dining room as long as I can remember. Your info makes me wonder if it may have belonged to her mother first. My grandmother was born in 1899 and married in 1918. It is definitely chalkware as your previous respondent indicated. I like you would be interested to know when it was made. Even though the colors on the piece are naturally muted, mine seems to have lost the brilliance of the colors. In addition, the brown paint in the crevices next to the leaves has disappeared. Upon research, it appears that chalkware was developed during the late 18th century until early 20th century then again during the great depression. According to the website
that was linked in your previous responses, the copyright symbol was developed in 1892 and continued to be used until early 1900's. I would assume my grandmother possibly bought hers during the great depression. I am glad you posted on this.
So good to hear the comment from Sherry Clarke. Sounds like we have similar threads!! While the item may not be the 'most valuable' monetarily it is an awesome keepsake. Just knowing that such a fragile thing was cared for by our mothers, grand and great grandmothers and passed on down to us is awesome to me. So glad you posted your comment. I have the identical chalk ware picture. Measures 13" X 10 5.8". Mine is in very good condition. Great detail but I do not know how to upload pictures of it. Got it from my mother's estate when she passed away. When I was younger she told me that she and Dad got it as a wedding gift in 1946. Did not tell me if it was new or older. I wish now I had asked more questions but as a young man I did not know the value or to ask questions about that kind of thing. I have it hanging in our bedroom now. To me it is worth about $20,000,000 because I would never part with it. Enjoy yours.
I too have the same placque! I just purchased it today as a birthday gift for myself as today is my birthday! Mine is in excellent condition, & it is just beautiful. It does however, have a sml. nick on each side of the molding around the frame, which in no way takes away from the beauty of this awesome find. I have a picture that is almost the same... Mine looks just like this except it doesnt have the outside detail around the picture.. I was just wonder what it was and where it came from... My mom has had it for as long as I can remember hanging in her kitchen.. Now that she has passed away I have and was just looking to see if someone else had one... Thanks
I have one called Peaceful hours with the stamp on the back That reads Ivor Jone I believe on kind of like an imprint of a scroll with tiny numbers underneath.
I also have one called The Swan Inn. Same age without a stamp. Both were my grandmothers and can't find anymore info including the maker. Help please?

With regard to "The Swan Inn," you haven't posted pictures of your own, so it's difficult to tell whether I've found the same image.
