This is a German J.P. Sauer & Sohn pistol that was captured during WW2 and brought home by the veteran.
The pistol is in Excellent condition with all matching numbers. I have a holster as well as two magazines for the pistol.
The small papers are both copies of the capture paperwork on a European Theater form. The paperwork includes the serial number and it matches the gun.
The white cotten sack was used by the veteran to hand carry the pistol home after the war.
I purchased the pistol from the veterans widow in the late 1990s.
She told me that by the end of the war, she had gone two years without seeing him. He had the bag in his hand when she met him in the train station on his return home. She assumed that it was some sort of gift for her-- French silk or perfumes, and she was very excited to see. After waiting for a while, and he not giving it to her she asked and was a little disappointed to find that it had the pistol and not a gift!

VERY cool gun! I have a few authentic Nazi pieces myself. This is a GREAT find!
Guess I missed this 1st time around or it missed the "buss". very nice.
The services understood that most soldiers wanted some sort of souvenir of their wartime service.
The policy continues today-- although MOST weapons are no longer allowed.

Yeah, the very 1st thing the gov't wants to take away (even before discharge) are the weapons! They train us to use them to kill & then want to take away the basic tools of the trade they trained us in. Kind of makes one feel like they don't trust us! Makes you wonder why? LOL. Really nice, kept together set. Most vets would throw the paperwork away immediately when they got home. Actually, in my 59 yrs of collecting weapons, I don't remember seeing even one of these certificates. In the South, having one would probably be an embarrassment.
I see the paperwork a lot more than I see the weapons WITH the paperwork.
The wife that I purchased this from was not a gun fan, so her husband packed it away just as it returned with him-- SAME bag he carried it home in.

Love that pistol. Sorry his wife was disappointed but he was the one fighting WWII.
