The Renaissance Princess by Amphora
Bohemia, circa 1897
11" high
For the most part, Amphora portrait vases are an enigma. No company records have surfaced to tell us what the names of the vases are and who, if anybody in particular, is being depicted. The Amphora scholar Dr. Byron Vreeland believes that she is a Renaissance Princess and therefore that is what he calls her in his Amphora book Monsters & Maidens: The Collector's Edition.
Amphora placed each of the portrait ladies on a variety of forms. This is one of my favorites for the Princess.

Devastatingly beautiful!
Lovely!
Definitely a homage to Pre-Rapaelite thematic motifs. Beautiful symmetry.
I'm amazed at the jewel-like quality of these pieces,
they introduce me to a whole new world
Thank You!
I remember when I fell in love with them, Budek. It was a fine feeling.
