Another thrift shop find was this box.
I think it may be made from ebony.
The wood turning is really tight.
It sits on a turned foot and above it are a series of 27 steps.
The round finial is part of the lid and has been turned with it.
The lid has nine steps and above it a round finial handle.
Each step is .5 cm (0.2 of an inch) wide and tapers slightly inwards.
It reminds me of the Art Deco pottery pieces of Keith Murray.
I am not sure if it was for tobacco: this box is not air tight.
Any suggestions would be appreciated.
It is 11 cm (4.3 inches) in diameter and 12.5 cm ( 5 inches ) tall.
There are no identifying marks.
Many thanks mikielikesigns2, bratjdd & BELLIN68 too!

Neat piece V. Do you keep anything in it?
Still on holiday, quiet morning, snuck my hubby's IPad to check in with my CW.
The more I look at this the more fascinated I am with this piece.

That's a beauty. I have always had a passion for boxes and it seems to run in the family as my nephew also seems to share that trait. Thanks for sharing it.

Many thanks czechman and inky too! Suzi_bluz did you dig this one up?
Sure wish I could shed some light on it's origin, it's a gorgeous thing.
