This bowl came from the Salvo's a year ago and at the time had the remnants of a Nuutajarvi sticker. The signature was extremely hard to see but it is engraved Oiva Toikka Nuutajarvi.
The series that it hails from is called Tunturissa which refers to the landscape that we might call "Arctic tundra". Toikka did various colour combinations that reflect seasonal and temporal visions of the ecotone between the tundra and the forest in Finland. The word 'tundra' from the Sami word "tundar" = "uplands," "treeless mountain tract." (wikipedia).
The decor on this vase is called Ruska - an autumn colour variant.
The bowl or 'kulho' is 9 cm high and weighs just 265 grammes. It is blown and moulded glass. The production of these pieces dates to 1987 - 1989; it's catalogue number is 822-043.
For us 'down under' this is the beginning of autumn.
So this is an attempt at an Antipodean Easter Autumn Greeting.
Happy Easter!
