Since Scott got me thinking about Camp Claiborne I have decided to share a photo that I sent to one of the Camp Claiborne historical sites years ago. The site owner was thrilled to see it saying that he had never seen a picture of the original main entrance gate. Since he never used it I will share it with the public. It is an old color photograph, not colorized. The color film was primitive back then and faded over the years to this brownish color.

      GREAT photo militarist.

I cannot tell from the photo-- can you tell if he has a patch on his shoulder for the picture?

      Thanks for sharing!

Thanks Scott, No patch above his Pfc stripe that I can see but on other photos of that time he is still wearing his 82nd div patch. This would be shortly before the 82nd was divided in half and his half became the 101st. Also around this time the 327th inf. regt. became a Glider Inf unit.

Cool! Nice to give pictures to people who would enjoy the previously unknown view. It must be so exciting to them!

I played around with this in Photoshop and there is still a small amount of color data left. Grass comes out green, sky comes out blue, so with proper skill you could get this back to or approximating original color.

Militarist-- are you sure that the blue color "airborne" tab wasn't just a function of your father leaving the tab, removing the "AA" and adding the Eagle, as opposed to being the colorists mistake?

It always annoyed me that the 101st patch was considered two patches when computing sewing costs at the sew shops!

A close look at the original and I can see where the blue does not completely cover the black. Also all the patches my dad had that I remember, had attached tabs though I have seen others that are not.
