This is an RPPC from 1908, the man holding the book & the woman next to him are my Grandfather's Uncle & Aunt. This picture was taken in 1908, in Sittingbourne, Kent, England, this is a Hop picking crew. The way that the man on the left is dressed, I would assume that he is the land owner, or the farm manager.

The second photo I can't date as the corner is missing, & it was never posted, on the back is written "With kind love to all from Mrs Mudge"

Kent is known as the garden of England

I've been waiting five days to see if anyone noticed but I guess they were to well camouflaged :)
They call that photo bombing now, I don't know what they called it in 1908.

I don't know what cob nuts are, but the plants are to small for hops.

Hi WS. Sittingbourne, I know it well :) Thanks for sharing this. What a great family photo. I used to walk past these hop fields everyday:). I love all the oasthouses seen in the background. When I was growing up in the area I'd see plenty, almost always derelict or being demolished. I don't think there're any left in Upchurch now. There were literally thousands of them in Kent alone at one time.
