Best as I can tell, this sign came from an airfield in Chicago that was called Orchard Place. It started some time around 1942 and had involvement either as a wartime air base or a manufacturing plant, not clear on which. The markings on the bottom, "ORD" is the current airport identifier for Chicago O'Hare, but from what I've researched it was originally for Orchard Place Airfield. As for what I did on this sign - gave it a real good buff job and a couple of coats of wax. It's porcelain paint on a thinner than normal stop sign. I also added the red reflector marbles and a wood backing board to hold in the marbles. The red & yellow paint really pop in the sunlight. If anyone has any other info on Orchard Place, please let me know.
