This little sommerso vase was an ebay purchase a couple of years ago. It is signed on the bottom in full "TAPIO WIRKKALA 3304". I enjoy his play on ovoid shapes. It seems it was made in a couple of shades of green/grey. This is the darker version. It is H 3 inches, ( 7.5 cm) upper Ø 3.1 inches.
Wirkkala's work for Iittala was prolific. This one it seems dates to the 1950's?
Do you display them?
Will go to lass now but have a LOW battery!
Magnificent!!!
Many thanks miKKo!
Thanks sean!
Many thanks bratjdd!
Many thanks marty!
It is a beauty! Wirkkala wasn't only prolific but such a complete designer: he worked with wood, metal, china, glass... he even designed toilet bowls! He's one of my gavourite designers but I made up my mind up about not collecting his stuff as it would be an endless collection! Still, I've got Niva, much of the stuff from the Ultima Thule and a couple more things... and a Finlandia vodka huge bottle! :)
I know what you mean, austro. Thanks too to inky and miKKo too! The other day I came across another Tapio vase, a Minerva and I could not resist putting this one up. Lass has put some other interesting scandinavian pieces on CW recently. I've been holding out on a couple of things.
I'm on the Ipad. I'll check in a few minutes!
Many thanks Bruce99!
Many thanks scandinavian_ pieces & toolate2!
Is it just! my computer that the ....next page box.. has disappeared from the bottom, having to scroll up to the top of the page just viewed to get on to the next page!?.....:-/
:-{ !!!! ????
And what's "save to collection"?
I have already had to change my scrolling habits to get to the new page. I reluctantly thought "I will have to scroll back up and check my scanning as I go".
How compliant am I?
Bring on the future!
I have to admit! I probably want go back as far as I usually do which is a shame! as there is such allot of information to read.....:-)
Hi Vetraio: we are rolling out a new concept of collections, where you can organize your own items as well as other people's posts into categories of your own making! Click on my username to check out the way I've started building mine...and shoot an email to support@collectorsweekly.com if there are any issues!
We are still working out a few bugs. Not sure what you mean about the scrolling, but definitely drop us a line if something has been altered in a negative way...
Hunter
Check out your "My stuff" page!
They have added a "see more..." below the Loves and Likes sections and the Comments.
I've been on here for nearly a year and the Loves were out of control. It would take twenty minutes to download the pictures every time.
This is a good move I think.
People are now more likely to look at all one's items rather than just the most recent. I know that on some of the very large contributors that have hundreds upon hundreds of items and the comments too may well have been putting people off.
I think they are good changes.
I've checked the CW Facebook page but there is no comment about the changes there that I have found so far. No comments on the front page of CW either.
does that help eye4beauty? I don't know which page you're trying to scroll through...we just deployed these changes today, and we're doing a "soft opening" hoping that regular users will test out the design upgrades and let us know if there are any major issues. We will definitely make a larger announcement in the next few days though: watch the blog!
