I bought this (to me, absolutely gorgeous) B & H lamp about two months ago on ebay. The 8 panel slag glass shade with (bronze?) overlay is about 18 1/2 inches in diameter and looks stunning both lit and unlit. The (bronze) base with three sockets is clearly marked near the top, but not the shade, and I'm not 100% "certain" if they came together. But whether they did or didn't doesn't diminish its beauty whatsoever (for my wife and I at least).
If anyone out there has seen one before I'd appreciate hearing more about it.
That is one SPLENDID lamp!
Very very nice !....:-)
Thanks!
It's really the focal point of our living room when lit- just amazing with a
soft yellow glow. It weighs a ton too! We were very (very!) lucky to have won it, and for a reasonable price (just under $1,000 with shipping).
Hello, you have a very nice lamp. It is likely made of white metal or cast iron with a bronze patina, as many B&H lamps were. Others were brass, nickle plated or painted. I believe your shade was made by The Empire Lamp Co. They made very high quality slag glass lamps and your shade style features prominently in their catalogues. Even though I don't think that these started together, I agree with you. Both base and shade are of sufficient beauty and quality that neither detract from the other. Very beautiful, thank you for sharing it.
Thank you kindly for that tip, Johann! I googled "the Empire Lamp Co. of Chicago" and saw a number of similar designs. The reason I think the B & H base is bronze (except for the foot, which is different metal) is because a magnet doesn't stick to it as it would with cast iron, and it weighs a TON.
The shade looks like a Bradley & Hubbard design. I have two B & H table lamps and they are marked on the bottom of the lamp base.
I have owned this same lamp for over 20 years. Before that, it was displayed in my grandmother's summer home since she bought the house in the 1960's. I have had it in a closet, but now I will be displaying its beauty for all to admire!
