Vintage/Antique Vise

Here is something I'm not sure about, it could be antique. It is a foot operated vise or clamp, 30" in height. When seated in a chair or standing you can operate the foot pedal, which opens the vise/clamp and you can put whatever you are working on inside the vise. Once you take your foot off of the pedal the vise closes and your item is secured to work on. The wood top would be used to put the tools you need and it has a drawer that pulls out from the side, just under the table. I think that the wood base and table were added at some time after it was originally used, for whatever the purpose was. I placed a piece of leather in the vise to show you how it holds. I think it could have been used to do leather work??
