Ok, here's where I earn my CW wings (I hope). Here we have an almost scientific comparison of two Ingrid Malachite Czech vases; in a way I have not yet seen on the internet (although I have looked, believe me!). The two vases here are from two different time periods, although for all I know they might have come from the same mold. The one on the left is vintage Curt Schlevogt Ingrid from about 1938, proven by the mark (Ingrid, Made In CZECHOSLOVOKIA (oval)) and the QUALITY! compared to a marked DESNA example from about 1980. Notice how the base has shrunk but the mouth has grown longer. The old-vintage one is lighter too (230g vs 344g) and thinner; light passes through the older one while the new one is opaque. The details have faded as the mold(s) got older from use, and here is the side-by-side you've been looking for so you can tell the old from the new. Enjoy!

For me who is a novice with glass, this great!..it's not often you get to see side by side two pieces like this to be able to compare and note the differences. Thank you! they are beautiful.....:-)

      You are welcome, inky. :)

The lack of detail in the Desna example suggests that it may have been constructed from a mold copy of the original 1938 version. I can't account for the shrinkage, though. BTW - you earned your wings months ago! ;)

Thanks cogito, I appreciate that. And I did read about the mold copies, so you are right that chances are these did not come from the same mold; I wasn't completely serious about that. The molds do appear to have a common origin, because the designs - although distorted and shifted slightly in the DESNA - are identical. This supports the "copied mold" information, because this copy has the same design but the scale and features are distorted and blurred; as suspected if copied! :)

And thanks BELLIN68:) I didn't want to leave you out.

Thank you for all of this information, I have a clear glass one with no mark on the bottom. It is very much more like the 1980's and weighs about the same. Well that saved me putting mine on to learn a little more about it. Many thanks again!

Just had a thought, are the clear glass ones from the same molds or are they from an entirely different maker?
    9. dasullywon dasullywon, 12 years ago
The clear-glass ones are almost certainly from a mold-copy, and all the clear ones I know of are fairly modern. They are from a different maker, and I read that this company that makes the clear supposedly bought the original molds (Ingrid molds) but the quality is low (like the 1980's example or worse). I have a yellow Ingrid-mold vase that is a larger size if you check my earlier posts. There is more info there too. I hope to get a vintage copy of that vase, and when I do I'll do another comparison like this one. Thanks! :)

hmm, I always assumed the one I had was desna but mine has belly buttons. I wonder if it is older. it's marked with a round made in czechoslovakia acid stamp.

Thank you dasullywon! Will look at your earlier posts.

Have checked out your early post - Wow!! what a fantastic collection of glass! I hope in the years to come I might have progressed as far and have a fab collection myself! I am yet to find 'my passions' as am only just on the cusp of understanding and appreciating the wonderful art and craft in the making. (I love this forum!)
      Thanks for your time!

Thank you (justanovice) I think this is a great forum myself.

GSO: The mark on the vintage (hard to see) is oval, with "Made In" on top and "Czechoslovokia" underneath in an arc. The shape is similar to the Loetz Czech mark. Is your mark round or oval? I'm not sure I've seen a round acid stamp.

I just posted some pics of mine. I'll have to take some more pics and try to get some lighter ones. all of my photos turned out really dark. not too salvageable with lightening them up.

      Hello,
My Czech Grandmother sent a number of malachite pieces to my Mom over the years,( from the 50's, through to the 60's ). They were old family pieces and greatly loved, ( still are ). Only one piece arrived damaged, a taller vase with women along the sides, ( there are a number of significant chips around the base ), luckily the other pieces arrived intact. I have a special fondness for malachite glass, thanks for posting them.

      Dear dasullywon,
There's a vase advertised on the e bay site that it just like the one my Mom has, but it's not broken. If you have the time could you please take a look at it for me to tell me if you think it's one of the older ones,( that's what I want to buy ). It would make a great Christmas gift! It's listed title is, " Large 8 12 Malachite Glass Nude Vase Bohemian Czech 1930 ". I hope it's not a bother,
      Thanks and kind regards,

Great comparison. I saw the Ingrid exhibit in Jablonec. The quality is fabulous. So many of the new Desna pieces actually show up around Pittsburgh with the acid etched Moser mark. And dealers and auctioneers are claiming they are.
