The TATU lamp is an iconic design from the Space Age design, something that would really fit in at Moonbase Alpha from "Space 1999"... It really is a funny but simple design: a heavy base that supports thre other angle-shaped pieces linked to one another trhough a plastic ring that allows them to rotate at will. The last one ends on a lens. It multiples the power of the small lightbulb inside as well as focuses the light in a point.

They're really sought after pieces and even if they became terribly popular in the Spain of the 1970s (they became the present to give to the coolest people) you don't see too many of them.

The white one is mine, got it online about four or five years ago. The red one is Carlos's. He got it as a Christmas or birthday present at age 16. You can see the original Silver Delta award sticker on it.

Thanks for your loves, guys! couldn't answer before because I've spent a few days in... Paris (1st anniversay ;) )

Paris! My birth place (but I live in Berlin). there's some good glass in the Louvre des antiquaires. But the French don't know anything about Scandinavian design.
    8. austrohungaro austrohungaro, 12 years ago
We didn't do much in terms of antiques except for museums... the glass collections at the Palais de Tokio (specially those by Marinot), Musée des Arts Décoratifs and Petit Palais were great! But yes, there's this very French thing about not paying much attention to design from other places... I remember, from other trips, seeing a couple of stores specialized in Danish Design but... at such prices!

We mostly walked around looking at Art Nouveau and Art Déco buildings :)

I hope you saw also also the Musée Guimet. That's really fantastic.

It's not quite our domain but they have a wonderfull collection of Asiatica. I was in the musée des arts décoratifs last year and slightly disappointed. But they have two very good musées de la mode.

We didn't but it was in our plans... and as for those two fashion museums (the Galliena and the one by the M. des Arts Décoratifs, aren't they?) I'd like to visit... by the way, Galliena is under works until December 1913

Really REALLY cool lamp. I've been looking for one for about a year now with no luck. Any advice on specific places to look? Did you find yours on eBay? Any help would be very much appreciated :) Thanks!! Take care

They've got one in here: http://www.todocoleccion.net/flexo-sobremesa-tatu-andre-ricard-color-negro~x35821574 but it has been restored: the switch is not the original one and they've adapted it to accept a LED light bulb instead of the original one. You are in the States, aren't you? Because I am not sure what kind of light bulbs you have in there (I should remember as I was living in Florida for some time, but I guess I didn't have to buy or change any lightbulb while I was there, but my guess is that they're the same we use in continental Europe -not in Britain-). As for voltage, TATU lamps came ready to work at both 125V and 220 V (there's a switch at the base to turn it on 125 or 220).

Thanks so much for getting back to me, and directing me to the lamp online! So unfortunate that they did those modifications. I am indeed in the states, but had my heart set on finding an original one with no modifications as I consider them to be a piece of art in their own right. How often do you see these for sale would you say? Do you think it is worth waiting to find a working original? or should I jump to buy the one you sent me and consider myself lucky? Thanks again!
    16. austrohungaro austrohungaro, 12 years ago
I totally agree with you: it will be better to wait to get the original one. I don't mind about the LED lamp and even change of cord, but the switch is an important part of the design.

Well, it's not very often these lamps come out into the marrket, but they do from time to time (sometimes incomplete or in bad condition -they're selling a couple of them at eBay France in awful condition... I guess somebody will get them because of the parts-), and if I see one I will let you know!!!

Ya I saw those too on eBay and my heart broke a little bit. I've noticed a lot of things coming out of France, for whatever reason, are usually almost destroyed haha. I've been looking for this Harvey Guzzini 'Clan' floor lamp for a while too and there's one listed on eBay France that looks like it has been submerged in the ocean since the 70's. Shame. Well, thank you so much for your time, and I can't tell you how much I would appreciate it if you happen to come across anymore for sale! All the best!!

Here's one a black one that seems to be in a good condition. Unfortunately the previous owner changed the original light bulb for a LED one (not too bad... after all I think the original bulbs are not made anymore) BUT he removed the lens... that's a bad thing as the lens is one of the main things in this lamp.

Hey! Thanks for continuing to keep me in mind! Such a shame that these keep getting "improved" upon. I haven't lost hope yet though! There's got to be at least one or two out there for sale that havent been altered haha

Such a cool lamp!!, anybody has recommendation where to buy one of this baby?
    26. austrohungaro austrohungaro, 11 years ago
Sadly, they're becoming rarer and rarer. Try a search on TATU at todocoleccion.net. I think there's a couple of them in black.

Hey Austro! Long time! Hey, so I finally found a lovely little Tatu in white (well more tan at this point), but unfortunately the connection inside is terrible or the transformer is going out because everytime I move it or turn the head the light flickers and is very hard to get turned back on. I took it to a couple lighting repair places in Los Angeles and they had no idea how to fix it. Any suggestions? Hope you're well!!

      Best,

      Levi
