Trying to find info on this lamp. It was found by my parents in a Doctors Office in a Ghost Town in Arizona in the early 1950's. My Mother used to say it was a Surgeons Lamp but haven't ever found any info on it or pictures. This lamp could be British or maybe French or maybe made someplace in the US back before oil was used in lamps. It is a candle lamp and does clean up very nice . Any info would be great.

Found another very similar to yours described as a surgeon's candle lamp! I had never seen one before encountering yours here today!
miKKoChristmas11--- This is great and yes it is very similar but here is the clincher --I see it says on the picture you sent it was a Civil War Surgeons Lamp well I kind of thought the same for this one so I found on the net this large Civil War Museum called " National Museum of Civil War Medicine " and sent them these pictures about four weeks or so ago--the Curator real nice lady said they looked through there books/archives etc and came up with nothing---so now I wonder where did that info come from saying it was a Civil War Surgeons Lamp ,but it is so close looking like mine that it has to be in the same time of that one I would think. Unfortunatly I haven't found a name or markings on it --my Mother used to keep it always cleaned up many years ago so I might just polish it up and look again.
Hi! Well, I think that I would try the websites for the various Civil War 'authorities' who appear on Antiques Roadshow. In this light, I just consulted Wes Cowan's Auctions and didn't find such a lamp through the search engine. I also didn't find one at the Society of Civil War Surgeons, but you might try emailing this society the link to your show and tell. I couldn't download their articles, so who knows? They just might be familiar with this. Exciting piece!

miKKoChristmas11---- Up date on Candle Lamp. So far all the Civil War Museums say that type of lamp was not a Surgeons Lamp during the Civil War at that time they where oil lamps. The site you sent me to "Civil War Surgeons" was a very good lead--They emailed back and said they had seen lamps like this in different forms and they where used for like looking into someones mouth etc. There date guess was around "third quarter of the 19th Century" but they had no references for me to go to. So now its a different track on hunting down more info and pictures.
Up date again on Candle Lamp exact lamp found but wounder where they got there info out of a book or just saying that its a reading lamp---but if you look at it ---it could very well be a reading lamp
